Default Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays 2016

Dear music making friend,

As 2016 comes to an end, please let me re-cap briefly what we have done this year. We are excited about what we have been able to do for and with our musicians, and very excited about improvements and new features coming up.

This past year we have enhanced our products to become solid and mature offerings for the Windows 10, macOS and Linux operating systems. This expansion of operating systems has made it much easier for many of our customers to enjoy using Notation Software products. For a summary of other version 3 features please visit our What's New page at www.notation.com/WhatsNew.php.

At first glance the software packages which were launched this year may not seem to contain much that is new. However, there is a lot underneath. New servicing enhancements help us and help you better in case of a problem, a new design of the device configuration manager is easier to use, an enhanced MusicXML export (e.g. to comply with new other scoring products) gives you versatility when working with others, updates of libraries, installation robustness packages, and more work for a better experience with our software. All version 3 updates are free for version 3 customers. These enhancements for robustness of our products allow us now to advance to new features for you, our musicians.

Last month we changed the company structure. Notation Software Germany now is a GmbH which gives us a higher reputation because we added additional funding to the company.

In sales we have broadened our scope by partnering with other music sites to reach more musicians. We were able to sign an agreement with the Hage Musikverlag in Germany which now sells our software products from their website. Many long term Hage customers are using Notation Software now as well. More indirect channels are planned for the future. We are proud that we have been able to welcome new customers, and that we can work to directly incorporate our customers’ recommendations into our product planning.

In the last few months we have spent much of our energy looking forward to what's next. This work is based on prototypes. We are now bringing together our research findings to be incorporated into the next product package. Here are the key feature enhancements for upcoming releases:

- MusicXML import. The next notation composer 3.0.7 will incorporate a MusicXML import module which will include the most important MusicXML elements. An update will be free for version 3 customers. MusicXML import will be an ongoing effort where priority features will be included from the beginning, and minor enhancements will come in further packages.

- Band-in-a-Box. We recently signed a contract with PG Music Inc. ( http://www.pgmusic.com ) a Canadian company which operates worldwide. PG Music is the leader in auto accompaniment software. PG Music has developed a software package plugin for notation composer. This plugin allows notation composer to offer an incorporated "Band In A Box" feature that generates accompaniment for new compositions. The Band In A Box plugin (we will call it BBPlugin) will be available as a 60-day trial package in notation composer 3.0.7. If you do not need it, then this BBPlugin trial will simply expire. Those who are interested can thoroughly test this feature and then purchase a full BBPlugin at any time.

- New website design. We have started a project for a new website. This new design will be compatible with tablets and smartphones, as well as traditional desktops and laptops.

Of course, version 3.0.7 will contain other enhancements, too, as we continue with our philosophy of offering mature and robust products.

Through Dec. 31st, 2016 we are offering a special discounted upgrade price to our version 2 customers who have not yet upgraded to version 3. As version 2 has been out for ~10 years, this upgrade option is the last opportunity to upgrade to version 3 at a discounted upgrade price. If you have purchased a version 2 license you can upgrade to version 3 by visiting the Upgrade Assistant on our website at www.notation.com/UpgradeOrder.php and entering your email address. The Upgrade Assistant will show you your options.

I would personally like to thank all our customers who have supported us with all their ideas and recommendations. Thanks also to those who have supported us just by upgrading. Further I would like to personally thank our staff who did a great job in 2016.

I wish you, your families and friends peaceful holidays and a Happy New Year.

Best regards,

Reinhold
