Slaughter on Tenth Avenue Richard Rogers

I would call this a foundation for modern dance, but steeped in a classical tradition. What would you say?

A first improvement would be to drop the 4th track (bass honky-tonk). Bass is largely low-directional if not "non". The whole of the piece is overdriven and the overall note velocity should be scaled back. On the good memory side, I used to go hear a good club entertainer often. He used to play in two volume levels, very loud, and "he'll be here in 20 minutes." Slaughter on tenth avenue was his warming up piece to wake up the drunks. But I loved the work and got used to hearing it a bit too loud. It lends well to its choreography, of course. It wasn't "This was a real nice clambake," but shows Dick Rogers could write more than light waltzes, too, although his waltzes could be superior. Carousel Waltz, for one. Hope this piece proves interesting to someone.
