Default Malagueña Duet

“Malagueña” was written in 1928 by Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona (the Cuban Gershwin), as the sixth movement of his piano piece "Andalucia". This presentation is a cross between a reduction, a transcription, and an arrangement. A malagueña is a flamenco-style dance.

As with any piano piece that is transcribed/arranged for wind instruments, it is always a challenge to find places to breath. Fortunately, there are a number of notes of short duration so the players can sneak short, quick breaths. Another challenge for the lead part is that it covers almost a full two octaves.

I have not included any dynamics in this piece, but it starts quietly in the lower register and builds dynamically throughout, as the melody line gets higher and higher into the upper register.

It can be a difficult piece to play, but well worth the time put in.

Hi Ralph,

Wow - you really pulled off a sweet one with this I very much enjoyed listening to the song file, and now wish I had someone else who played recorder or whistle to play it with. I think I may also take your lead line and transcribe it to bass to play as a very cool warm up. Heck, I might even steal the whole thing and put it together to play double stops for some sections as a bass thing.

Thanks for the inspiration

ttfn,
Sherry
