Hi Ken,

Ah! As they say "a picture is worth a thousand words!"

This is a beaming item

1. Click on that middle note (the F in the first group and the E in the second group).
2. Now in the Notes and Rests tab, click on the "Beams" button (fourth button from the right)
3. Now click on the "Beam left and right" tool button (third from right).
