I just started writing music again. I used to write a lot of metal long ago, and nowadays I'm writing "clasical-ish" and "metal-ish" music. I have some death metal songs linked to on the page below. These are all mp3s. I recorded them while playing them in Notation Composer.

Enjoy.

Default Howdy Alex, Thanks for givi

Howdy Alex,

Thanks for giving us the link to your mp3 recordings, and for the good words about Notation Composer on that page

I listened to most of your songs - you have some interesting parts interweaving there. I'm curious if some of the stereo panning effects were a result of your manipulating the file in Composer, or are the sounds you're using "equipped" that way?

You also mentioned on your page that you're experimenting with loading some new sounds on your soundcard. Are you using soundfonts? If so, you might find our page here http://www.notation.com/Articles-Soundfonts.htm to be helpful.

Would you mind posting the .not files you created for these songs? It's often helpful (not to mention just fun ) to see how folks have used various instrumentation or rhythmic figures to various effect. It's very helpful to me in learning (I play bass, and am trying to cover a lot of genres) to actually see the notation as it plays.

Thanks for sharing your music, and I look forward to hearing more!

ttfn,
Sherry

Hi Alex
Like Sherry, I also listened to most of your metal compositions and kept my ( right ) foot tapping to the irrissistible beat.As a bass player I never got as far as some Guns N´´Roses,Mr.Big and Pearl Jam songs in the good young days. But I am not too old( I hope )in learning to appreciate heavy metal, and some .not files would certainly help to unraffle some of your metallic secrets.
Keep the heavy stuff coming !
Regards
Djim

Here is Death Metal Song 2.

The bass part is not that special. I used to be a guitarist long ago, and I wrote music exclusively for electric guitar. In my bands, we had bass players for a total span of time of around 4 weeks. So I had little time to experiment with composing interesting things for bass.

The guitar is split into 3 staves so I can easily copy and paste the notes and then transpose them a certain number of half steps. One of the things that would be IMMENSELY helpful in Notation Composer is a "Paste Merge" function, where I can paste notes onto a staff which merge into the notes that are already there, forming chords, rather than just overwrite the existing notes.

Sherry, I don't know what you mean by the panning effects. I made no panning changes in any of my songs. I'm curious to know which song you mean and and what time does the panning change occur.

Also, there is no good sounding muted distortion guitar sound in my MIDI sounds, so I just simulated it with power chords. For anything greater than a 16th note, it's simulated with 16th notes followed by rests to fill out the rest of the note. For example, a muted 8th note is a 16th note followed by a 16th rest.
