Default no rests at beginnig of measure

I attached the original midi file pic and what notation composer does to it. For some reason Not. comp will not show the sixteenth note rest and then misinterpets the note durations in these measures I checked the original note durations and tried re transcribe to no avail. other programs -sonar and powertracks opens it correctly. How do I get Note. Comp. to read the midi file correctly. See Attachments

Hi,

Without actually having the .mid file in hand, my best guess is that the Transcription Option for how to handle rests needs to be set differently. The transcription options are set by default to transcribe "live recording", where folks often have more rests than they think they do Ergo, removing small rests gives a "smoother" piece of sheet music than having a more rigid reading. However, to have that rigid reading, all you need to do is to go to Settings/Transcription Options, and check the "Do Not Remove Rests".

Give that a try and see how it goes.

Sherry

Sherry, I tried transcription option do not remove rests and still no change I attached the midi file. I check all events everything is as it should be: 16th note rest 8th note followed by 16th note then 8th note rest then 8th note - that is the pattern that should show in notation

Hi,

Yes, the file will still play as it originally did because Composer does not mess around with the underlying MIDI performance parameters. Composer just tries to transcribe the note events into playable music notation.

In this particular case, the algorithm is not transcribing rigidly enough, so thanks for the file demonstrating that weak area.

This is now task 2850.

You can work around the problem by using the Piano Roll, setting it to "Edit as-notated" and fixing the notation. Sorry for the inconvenience here.

ttfn,
Sherry
