Default Importing chord information

I have a problem importing chord information. I've searched the forum and the documentation but am still in the dark, so any help would be much appreciated.

I use both Band-in-a-Box (BiaB) and Notation Composer (NC). NC is far superior in its transcription capabilities, but I think BiaB does a better job recognizing chords. So I have tried the following: I open a solo piano midi file containing no chord information in BiaB, which automatically displays chords. Then I save the resulting song as a standard midi file using the BiaB "Make a standard midi file" command, with the "Write harmony to midi file" and all other options checked. (My understanding is that BiaB then adds the chord information to the file.)

I open the resulting midi file in NC, and choose "Display chord Names." Nothing shows up.

What am I doing wrong?

Default Re: Importing chord information

Howdy,

You're not doing anything wrong at all, it's just that chord name information is not included in the MIDI file (it is in Biab's native song formats).

To get the chord names to show up in Composer, you can use Format/Transcribe chord names. Composer gives you some options about how to transcribe these, and what format you want them in.

ttfn,
Sherry
