Smile Thru/through, and muting it

Hallo

I'm using NC to record for the first time for a long time.

First there is an issue of terminology. In most midi software I use, the channel that voices what you play as input is called thru or through. Notation doesn't seem to use this term. What is the equivalent ? (I can't search the excellent manual without it !) (This is different from the track you're recording into, which is usually silent when recording is happening)

Second, given latency, in fact often one doesn't want this sounding of what one is playing, because it's not in time - you end up hearing each note twice. So how can the thru/repeat be muted, when recording?

And third (it may the same question repeated, I'm not sure) if I have recorded a track or two into Notation, and then want to play another track ie on my keyboard, not recording it, against/with what I have recorded, how do I mute the 'thru effect' (other than pulling the midi cable out !) ? I've tried making a blank staff, selecting it as active, and muting it - yet there is still 'thru' sound.

Sorry to be dense.
