Re: Operating Systems

Sherry

I quite appreciate that offering the products on other platforms is likely to be much more than a port and in the cases of Macs and iPads would be a major undertaking. So I guess the next...

Operating Systems

I guess this is a big one for the new team to assess but I would be interested to know if there are any thoughts for extending the operating systems under which Notation might run. I have an...

Enharmonic spelling preference

Having battled with another set of scores for our choir where Notation insists on using a different enharmonic spelling to that printed in the score, might I humbly ask you to consider allowing the...

Re: Notation Software to transfer ownership and expand worldwide support

My first thoughts on receiving the announcement were (a) as with the others above, relief that there seems to be a firmer future for the software but (b) concern that the wonderful support by Sherry...

Re: Stubborn beams

Sherry

Stubborn beams are still haunting me. Just working through the batch of scores for our choir's Summer Concert and again find that pieces that I either key in or import from MIDI files...

Notation Musician Staff Setup

Sherry

I am trying to encourage more of our choir members to upgrade from Notation Player to Notation Musician but I'm not completely sure of the additional functionality.

Can you please...

Working on Sunday? File attached. Descant stave is called "Children" as that is how it appears in printed score.

Unable to add slur to top staff

I have been creating a choral score which is SATB + a Descent staff which is empty for much of the piece. I therefore used "Hide Empty Staves" to hide the Descant staff on most pages.

When I...

Re: Blank verses in lyrics

Sherry

As always, many thanks for your rapid reply and great patience in explaining something I should have been able to work out. It's another set of commands that I hadn't really used and so...

Blank verses in lyrics

Sherry

I have been trying to create some SA + TB scores in a "hymn book" style with just one set of lyrics between the two staves. When I view or print the score there is a lot of white space...

Lyrics lines - varying the font attributes

Sherry

Another minor suggestion from a choral perspective. It sometimes occurs that a piece is shown with alternative languages for the lyrics. Common examples are sacred music with lyrics shown...

Slurs and Ties - line styles

Sherry

A minor suggestion. In choral and vocal music with multiple verses, it often occurs that a note is split to accommodate two syllables in one verse, but then tied or slured for a single...

Re: Unexplained volume change

Sherry

Thank you very much for the rapid reply. That solves my problem and shows that I hadn't really understood "note velocity".

I just remain a little puzzled about the interaction between...

Unexplained volume change

Sherry

The attached piece has been created from a MIDI file created by a choir colleague using another (much inferior!) software product: it just helps me to share out the load of keying in choir...

Re: Note value, tempo definition and playback marker

Sherry

Thanks. That answers part of my question which is how to set the playback marker increments.

But the other part is whether it is possible to select the note value to be used in the...

Note value, tempo definition and playback marker

Hi Sherry

Just starting my next lot of choir music and have come across something I hadn't noticed before. The vertical bar playback marker seems to move in increments as set by the note value...

Re: Different meters on different staves

Sherry

Thanks for your rapid reply. No great rocket science in my workaround. I quickly worked out that it was easier to represent the notes written in 2/4 meter in a measure with a meter of 6/8...

Re: Ability to import MusicXML and/or ABC

Sherry

Do you have any update on a realistic timescale for MusicXML import? I'm currently evaluating some printed score recognition software and observe that their MusicXML export is much richer...

Different meters on different staves

Sherry

I have come across something peculiar in a choral score that I am entering. For just a few bars, one vocal part and the piano accompaniment are singing/playing in 6/8 meter, whilst three...

Deleting Invisible Notes

I have just started keying in a rather messy choral piece. As a by-product of changing the ruler, I ended up with a full measure note that should not have been there. I thought it quicker to delete...

Retaining song time

I'm sure I'm missing something basic here but ...
When planning the final order of items for our choir concerts, we need to have the duration of each item. Of course we do a live timing in our...

Re: Tempo doubling on playback

Sherry/Barrie
Synchronised solutions! I had just carried out the same test by doing a MIDI export. This does give me an adequate workaround provided I remember to use the MIDI file rather than the...

Tempo doubling on playback

I use a laptop running Vista to playback music for our choir practices. On some occasions, it is happily playing a piece when suddenly the tempo doubles. There is no change of tempo indicated in...

Re: Volumes reset on MIDI Exports

Superspeed response as always. I have worked through your process and as you say that works fine.

However, my standard procedure has one extra step: when I do Export to MIDI, I always...
