Augmented Chord Names

After looking at this for a while, I don't like making the augmented chord names red. It makes it look like there is an error. It's not an error in the many, many western world fake books.

I couldn't find the thread where we had discussed this, so I had to make a new thread.

I use the +7 notation frequently. Please consider "getting the red out". ;)

Re: Augmented Chord Names

Ralph,

Your recommendation is already included in the latest beta 3.0.6-169 which is available for download.
For the augumented 7th chord we have now
7#5, 7+5, 7+, aug7, +7
With 5 variations this chord type is now leading the list of chord type variations. ;)

Re: Augmented Chord Names

Just one further general comment on chord names. Unfortunately chord names are not standardized. The most commonly chord name varies from country to country (e.g. in German notation a Bm is a Hm) and from music style to music style.

With 3.0.7 it became even more complex because the chord names are used for the following interfaces
  • Composer/Musician/Player internal (how to display it, how it sounds etc.)
  • import/export from/to MIDI XF chord type format
  • import/export from/to MusicXML chord type format
  • interfacing to the Band-in-a-Box plugin
Each interface only uses a subset of the chord name variations. Composer tries to reach the best adjustment for each needs. With 3.0.7 the software concept is very modular. If somebody detects that a variantion of a chord name is not covered, please let us know. We will try to include it in the next update package.

Given what we offer here Composer is better than any of the competitive programs ;).
