Hello Friend,

As our valued customer we want to inform you of some exciting news from
Notation Software, Inc.

Notation Software, Inc. will soon announce a transition of its business to
new ownership based in Europe. The new leadership will allow Notation
Software to further support its worldwide customer community and to
enhance its product line with new features and international support.

In August 2013 ownership and operations will be assumed by Notation
Software Germany, a corporation based in Utting am Ammersee, Germany.
The CEO Dr. Hoffmann is a long-time customer of Notation Software, Inc.
The decision to transfer ownership was taken after the passing of Notation
Software’s founder and visionary, Mark Walsen two years ago. The
agreement transferring ownership was signed in August 2012 and a smooth
handover is planned for August 2013.

Since August 2012 Notation Software Germany has been actively working
on development of new features for the Notation product line. With regards
to the overall customer support there is no change. It will be handled from
both the US and Germany.

With this step we believe Notation Software will further support you and
new everyday musicians in the world with the best-in-class products at
affordable prices.

We kindly refer you to the complete announcement which you can find at
www.notation.com/NotationSoftwareAnnouncement.pdf, which will be sent
to the press. In that announcement you will find more information about
the transition, the new ownership and future directions.

Kind regards,

Greg McLawsen                  Dr. Reinhold Hoffmann

A new chapter.

My best wishes to Dr. Hoffman, to Greg McLawsen and, of course, to the "voice" of Notation Software, Sherry Crann.

I am eager to discover the new plans for Notation products.

Re: Notation Software to transfer ownership and expand worldwide support

I'm so glad that Notation will continue on. I'm at the point where stuff is so complicated the final has to be on the appallingly time-consuming Sibelius, or in some cases multi-inputted via Sonar, but there's STILL nothing comes close to Notation Composer for ease of use. If I'm not using it as my primary input/recording tool, then I'm using it when I need to edit the notation botched up by other programs!

Seriously, Notation Composer (and the original Midinotate) have been enormously important and of enormous utility for me--and it's helped me progress hugely. I know it's intended for "everyday musicians" but in reality you can take it so far beyond the realm of "everyday" as to be on another planet entirely.

So glad the development will continue on.

Thank you very much Sherry, this is indeed a great news to hear that Notation Composer will keep evolving. It is a wonderful piece of software with no match in its price category (actually not even for twice or three time the price) so knowing that the few existing glitches have a chance to get fixed and maybe new features added is wonderful. If this happen, I will gladly buy an update :)

Re: Notation Software to transfer ownership and expand worldwide support

My first thoughts on receiving the announcement were (a) as with the others above, relief that there seems to be a firmer future for the software but (b) concern that the wonderful support by Sherry would continue. As a retired IT professional with many years experience working both for a small software company and later for a large systems integrator working with many software suppliers, I have to affirm that the support is amongst the best I have experienced. The speed and helpfulness of the responses not only addresses my ignorance, it also (mostly) compensates for some of the "quirks" of the package. I was so please to read in the extended document that Sherry will continue to be supporting the package.
I also look forward to some visibility of the priorities for development and bug fixing. It is a great challenge for a small software company to balance the requests from diverse groups of users: I hope that the new team will take time to fully understand the range of uses to which the product is put. For example one (but not the only) of my key uses is preparing practice scores for an SATB choir and the requirements for this are possibly quite different from those of one performing with a group of instruments.
Best wishes for the future of this great product.
Tim

Re: Notation Software to transfer ownership and expand worldwide support

Dear Musicians,

a week ago the transition of ownership of Notation Software was announced where I will come in to take it over and to further support you with the existing products, provide more developing capabilities and to move the business forward with Notation Composer and Notation Musician.

Since last week, we and especially I have received many, many positive and motivating responses from all over the world which I carefully read. Please apologize that it took some time to read them and that I cannot respond to all directly.

For all these motivating wishes, ideas, recommendations etc. I would like to thank you very much. I promise that in the future I will do my best to support you as I have been supported as Notation Software’s customer for 10 years.

One particular topic I would like to bring up here shortly. Some remarks and concerns came up from people in the US/Canada that the service support might be impacted because the new ownership resides in Germany. First of all, Sherry Crann will stay on board without any change to further support the community. In the past almost 8 months Sherry and I worked closely together almost on a daily base where in some cases we were even able to benefit from the time difference. A resolution could be provided from the US perspective even “over night”.

I lived in US and worked in US for many years in a leadership position in the software industry. I know how people think, work and what their needs are. Actually isn’t really different than of those from Europe, Asia etc. Clearly service support is one of Notation Software’s value proposition which we are going to preserve and with the hub in Germany further improve.

At this point I would like to thank Sherry Crann supporting me during the transition and the handover.

For the next months the priority is to smoothly complete the handover of the business without any impact. In addition, of course, there is something in the pipeline for this year to be released…

Again, thank you very much for all the wishes and supporting notes.

Kind regards,

Reinhold Hoffmann
