Witch's Brew

Here is something a bit different.

At times I get asked to create sound tracks for musical groups. There is always very little time to do the work. In this case I had the musical director of a musical group write down a few measures of a melody of an English song, I did not know, called “Will ye nae come back again”. This song was the basis for a bagpipe track. I have also used the same song, converted to minor, for an introductory Sound Scape called “Witch's Brew”.

The Steinberg Halion Player, an instrument sample library, also contains sound effect samples. Some of these sound effect samples, other sound effects I have recorded and sound effects from elsewhere are featured here. The violin, harp and drums are from Garritan GPO. The Bagpipes are from Garritan WI.

For another show, I have produced a short part of J. Denver’s “Leaving on a Jet Plane”. This is a simple arrangement of a backing track. The sound effects impress everyone. I have to add, that for shows, I always install my own quite powerful sound system, making the jet at the end of the song really roar. The Guitar is from Steinberg Halion Player. Other instruments are from Garritan GPO and JABB.

Best wishes,

Herbert

PS

I have been told by a bagpipe player that bagpipes go out of tune quickly while playing a song and that bagpipes are practically never in tune. I have therefore detuned the bagpipes by up to 15 cent against each other. This resulted in a more realistic sound. I also allowed the drummer to be slightly out at times.

Hi Herbert,

Excellent! I'll comment in more detail later, but just had a quick listen to all these and they all demonstrate a mastery of your library and techniques, and wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed that first listen (which is probably what most of your audience gets) :)

As I said, more later....

ttfn,
Sherry
