My latest piece - nonet
I started this piece in Notation Composer, but it made sense to export to Sibelius because it was written for a Sibelius competition. (would that be a good idea for this forum too, I wonder ?)
Kevin Riley, wanted a piece for his best instrumental players in his amateur orchestra. He chose the unusual combination: Clarinet Trumpet Trombone Tuba Guitar - classical Piano violin viola cello So I set about trying to make this unusual grouping work, and this is what I came up with East West is playing up, so the sounds are not as good as usual (but better that GM). Re: My latest piece - nonet
Very nicely done, Adrian. Good rhythm and feel throughout, with a nice crescendo and ensuing rubato section, starting just before the 4-minute mark. The modal changes are very effective.
Throughout history, composers have had to write to fit the available instrumentation. Challenge positively accepted, on this piece. Ralph |

Thanks for listening
I will take the time to look at some of your new arrangements now, as there is always much to learn from somebody who has worked as a pro arranger. |
Re: My latest piece - nonet
Hi Adrian,
Enjoyed on first and each following listen. I appreciate the way you build melodic sections, instrument changes, and mood swings around the three note motif, in such a way that the motif is always integral, rather than just a device. I'd love to hear it live. all best, mgj |
