Wishing you and yours....

a very merry Christmas from the Crann household here in chilly Bad Axe, Michigan, USA!

We'll be taking a few days here to celebrate and do "family stuff", so if I don't reply immediately to any queries, it's not because I'm ignoring anyone :)

Mark also has family visiting, and is busy with them as well.

Celebrate!

A joyous and peaceful Christmas to all.

Here's a small gift. This is a short piece of underscore music from our current production of Charles Dickens's The Chimes, along with a photo from the show.

The Chimes is one of Dickens's other Christmas stories and a very good one, too.

This is the music that the church bells sing to the main character as they give him strength to continue his life of poverty in Victorian England. Written for pipe organ and translated to General Midi. The photo has been reduced in resolution to upload, but it gives you an idea.

Happy Holidays,

David

I did get to listen to your previous Christmas Prelude (for A Christmas Carol) to accompany my annual ACC re-read. Agreed that The Chimes is another great Christmas story, and thanks for sharing your "underscore" music! Again, quite evocative of the tone of the tale. Also, great picture! Would that happen to be you playing Trotty Veck?

So, are you doing a cycle of Dickens' Christmas stories, or have you already done the other three and I just missed it?

Thanks for sharing!
Sherry

Re: Wishing you and yours....

Hi, Sherry:

Not me playing Trotty. A very talented community actor named Joe Laxton (who is also a good friend). A delightful young lady named Rachel Needham as Little Lillian (in her very first role).

I've done A Christmas Carol and The Chimes as "choral" stage works. The Cricket on the Hearth is pending, and I've created a full musical called The Holly Tree, which uses a dozen different Dickens stories (some of them Christmas stories, some not) to create one complete tale. In fact, it was notating the score the The Holly Tree which prompted me to buy Midinotate and got me involved in the beta process for Composer, all those years ago, now.

There are a few more pictures of the show on my Facebook page, if anybody here Facebooks.

Happy Yuletide.

David

Hi David,
I'm quite new to Facebook, so haven't used the search function much. I guess I should have entered "Ottawa", which would probably have made it easy.
The photos are very impressive. The staging, costumes, acting, as well as the music sample above, suggest a very professional and inspired production. One I'd love to see.
all best,
mgj
