Changing clefs after Midi Import

Hi, I'm fairly new to the forum and although I've had a look around I can't find the solution to my question elsewhere so I thought I'd ask here. I am importing several Midi files, which are for small chamber groups, (eg. the Max Bruch trios for Clarinet, Viola and piano). I am finding that when the Clarinet goes down into its lower region Notation Composer changes to a Bass clef, and then goes back to the treble clef when the notes go back up again. At the moment I an having to scan right through the piece looking for clef changes and rectifying them. Is there any way I can tell the import mechanism that a strand should always be in the treble clef? ............Thanks ........John

Doesn't anyone else have this problem? Or is there no better way? ... John

Hi,

The transcription is designed to give the least ledger lines, but unfortunately for this case you don't want the clef change. Perhaps an additional option in the Setup/Transcription for keeping single-note staves all on the same clef might be in order?

Hi Sherry, Thanks for your reply ... Yes, I understand the idea of obviating ledger lines, but for instruments that always use the same clef it would be nice to be able to tell the Transcription process this. I guess the Clarinet is one of the worst cases because of its range and the fact that it is always written in the Treble clef. So, yes please, if it can be something you put into a future release I think it would further enhance a great product. .... Cheers, John :)

Hi John,

I have entered the enhancement in the task list, and specifically mentioned clarinet :)

Thanks for that, Sherry. I am no orchestrator, but you must have many contacts who are who can tell you if there are other instruments that have this requirement. For instance, as far as I know violin parts are always written in the Treble clef, yet could contain passages down to the G below middle C. Anyway, an option would be great.... Thanks
