I'm opening the new thread mainly for Derek Sanders, for his beautiful waltzes. But I start with my arrangement of "Sunrise, Sunset". As you see that's a jazz waltz.

My second attempt to get into this thread...is it going to work this time??? it looks like it is so I will try to upload the waltz again, I shall have to copy what I wrote to Kombrig into another post later on, it was rather long and I don't have the time right now...

Wow, wow, wow... Hold your horses, Derek!
I got all your messages one way or another. Why duplicate the same thing over and over again? I gotcha, be cool...
I've been quite busy, working hard on my French section last two days. Therefore, I held my answer.

Now, you wrote:
----------------------------------
I did put a nice French waltz as a midi file in my Tango spot...
----------------------------------
I listened this one, though, having some troubles to open. It's pretty cute piece, my friend! But something wrong had happened, when I've tried to see the text in .not file you supplied at the "Waltz" section.
What version of MNC (Midi Notate Composer) do you use, Derek? I couldn't open it, unfortunately.

"Drops of Champagne" - is out of questions. That was just an example my arrangement of tangos. No apology necessary... I want to ask you just one thing: DO YOU LIKE THE WAY this one is arranged? I've never heard "Ole Guapa" and "Ecstasy Tango", but I believe those should be great tangos. Everything depends of ARRANGEMENT!

-----------------------------------
I went into your web site yesterday...
... Quite a unique style and a very wide range of musical genre.
... I must say that a lot of it wasn't exactly to my taste...
-----------------------------------
This is cool, Derek, I kind of proud to be UNIQUE. Also, I don't think that anybody else (I mean: any musician, not just an accordion player) has a repertoire wider than I do. Have you look at another threads of this page, which I opened? Believe it or not, this is less than 1% of what I'm actually playing!
And you don't have to like every single piece I'm playing! I want you just to acknowledge it. That's all...

Maybe it sounds bizarre, but I have an interesting explanation of that. You see, Derek, I've got a very specific "point of view" on everything I'm listening or playing. The point is this: "Can I sell it out?"
Another words, my music is strictly commercial! I know exactly: what, how and in what kind of performance music should sound, to be sold out. So, the every single piece I'm performing daily or putting on the Web IS COMMERCIAL! Which means: "If you're going to learn those pieces, find an appropriate place in your city and start to play them on public, you're going to MAKE MONEY IMMEDIATELY!"

------------------------------------------
Two pieces stuck in my mind:
"Hills of Manjury" and "Farewell of Slavyanka"...
-------------------------------------------
I got you, Derek, if you want it - it'll be done. You betcha!

Be happy.
Kombrig.

Good Morning Kombrig, I am sat

Good Morning Kombrig, I am sat here suffering with a terrible cold and a cough which has left my throat on fire, I hope your health is in better shape than mine is at the moment.
I am sorry my letter was so disjointed but when I first started nothing seemed to turn out right and once posted the imperfect posting cannot be removed so you ended up with a lot of failed attempts, I think the fault was mine in that I did not understand the limits set on a posting, however, I have learned from my mistakes and I don't think it will happen again. Sorry you couldn't open 'Annette', I'll see if I can get it to you another way. I can see I'll have to take another look at your French section and see what you have done to it. I have opened your 'Drops of Champagne' number again and I find the arrangement just fine, I have put it into my music and, if it's O.K. with you I will put it to our seniors band and see if they would like it in our repertoire.
Yes, I have been into your other threads, in fact I have listened to everything you have posted, that's why I understand how wide your interests range. I'm going to finish here for a while, I don't want to go over the limit again and have the same problems as before. I'll get back to you when I have been to your 'French' thread again.....
TTYL....Derek.

Derek Sanders (derek_sanders) 01-22-2007 05:58 PM

Here we are back again Kombrig

Here we are back again Kombrig, I have just been to your 'French' thread and I see you have the same two pieces there.'La vie en Rose' works well in the 6/8 tempo, I couldn't use the key of 'A' because our seniors would not be able to read it, funnily enough they manage flat keys more easily, so, should I use it I would put it in 'C' and then modulate to Eb the second time around, it sounds good that way and the 6/8 would give it a novel feel.

I have put 'Annette' into a PDF file, I checked it for size so it should go into the thread O.K. You'll be able to print it and play it but if you wish to change it in any way you will have to enter it into your programme first.

I'll answer more of your posting later.....TTYL...Derek.<center><table border=1><tr><td>http://www.notation.com/discus/icons/mime_pdf.gif'Annette' PDF

Howdy Derek,

I see that some of your posted attachments above were pdf documents of some text. You can simply select/copy/paste the text of a document into the text field of a post here on the forum, exactly as you would in a word document using NotePad or any other text editor. If you want to do specific formatting, that will need to be done a bit differently, but plain old text is pretty easy. It would save you the "attachment too large" grief http://www.notation.com/discus/clipart/happy.gif

I'm going to make "Farewell of Slavyanka" later on, and you'll find it in Russian/Soviet thread.

...if it's O.K. with you I will put it to our seniors band and see if they would like it in our repertoire.
----------------
We're sharing our music on "Share your music" page. Don't we? That's the point, Derek! You shouldn't ask me every time: can you do something with my music? Of course, you can! I brought these pieces here and anybody can do with it whatever they want. You see, I'm generous... Don't I?
Otherwise, I'd hide my music and only sell it out.

I'm gonna look at 'Annette' closely later, OK?

Be happy.
Kombrig.

Hello Kombrig...Thanks for the beautiful Waltz...I'm sorry you have had to wait for this reply but I have been quite sick this week and am only now feeling like getting back to normal. Next on my agenda is to do an arrangement of "The Hills of Manjury" so that when we start rehearsals in February it will be ready for them to try.
I understand what you are talking about when you advocate commercializing music and for you that is fine, you are still working on your career, mine is over and not being a professional any more allows me greater choice over the music I wish to perform, also my audiences are now all seniors, hospital patients and other institutionalized older people. I play the kind of music they are familiar with, old songs and ballads and country music etc... they like nice melodic solos to so I am expecting "Manjury" to be quite popular, where does it come from??? it has a Russian like flavour to it, we have a strong Ukrainian community up here and they would like it I'm sure. I played Accordion and Bass Clarinet with the Edmonton Ukranian Orchestra for three years back in the 90's, it was a lot of fun but the music could be quite tough at the high speeds they required for some of the dancers, they were quite spectacular the way they threw themselves all over the stage.
That's it for today...Have a Good one..TTYL....Derek.

Good Evening All, Last year I was Blessed with the arrival of my very first Great-Grandchild. Her name is Aerya so I wrote this little waltz for her. Naturally I call it "Waltzing with Aerya" This means a lot to me because I never expected to see a Grandchild let alone a Great Grandchild. You see, in December of 1970 I was given 6 months to live, I had to work hard at survival but I beat the odds and here I am revelling in writing music for those I never expected to see.I am posting it as a piano solo because I wrote it sat at the piano, but at Sherry's suggestion I have added it as an accordion solo which is the instrument I will mainly be playing it on, I like the sound of both but what do you think? ? ?.....

Hi Derek,

What a wonderful, bright waltz! And now Aerya has a gift to cherish for a lifetime. I can picture her playing her waltz for her own children and grandchildren, beaming with pride that her great-grandpappy was able to give her such a treasure.

It's a pretty tough decision, but I think I like the piano version the best. I've got two bucks that says Alex will like the accordian better.http://www.notation.com/discus/clipart/happy.gif

Cheers,
Fred

Good Morning!!..Thank You Sherry &amp; Fred for your kind remarks, I am so glad you liked Aerya's Waltz...I must agree Fred, I too preferred the piano rendition but only on the computer, it really sounds good on a live accordion and I agree that Alek will prefer the accordion version, but I have heard what he can do with a waltz on his accordion and my bet is that he would really make it sing. But also it does sound nice on my piano so I think I can have the best of both worlds.
By the way, there is a sequel to this which will be coming up shortly.
Have a Good one......TTYL......Derek.

Howdy, crowd!

I want to show you today a couple of waltzes. It is a little unusual.

1. YOUTH
Written by Russian composer Alexander Dmitriev. I have arranged this thing long ago, but just now re-wrote it in MNC software.
I met with unexpected difficulties, when I've tried to save it in .mid format. MNC just saves the only LH and refused to save RH. So, I was have to clone the RH and then file's been saved with both hands.

One more bad thing: .mid file sounds considerably different than .not file. I also do not glad about it...

Well, anyway, listen to this:

Well, Well Kombrig! Two very impressive waltzes, the jazz waltz immediately brought Tommy Gamino to mind, he is the only jazz accordion player I know capable of the kind of speed and accuracy needed for such a piece, yes, it's a tremendous piece of writing but not being a jazz man I have to say that I preferred 'Youth', a very nice waltz, I tried it at various speeds and I like it very much at 200, bring it down a few more notches and it could be danced to, it's a tricky piece but well worth learning, a nice addition to any accordionist's repertoire.

I haven't been on here for a little while because I'm just getting over a bout of pneumonia, however, I'm nearly back to normal so I should be posting some more music soon.....Have a Good one....

I must say, the Jazz Fiery Muz was awesome. Totally a masterpiece, I loved it. You can tell Zekaban that if you want. I don't really like accordion music that much, but that piece... was wonderful.

DEREK SANDERS and DANIEL VALLERY!

Thank you, gentlemen, for such a worm estimate! I'm going to tell to Zekaban about your appreciation. If you'll go to site of this guy, you'll can hear some more awesome music. This place is Russian, though... So, everything written on Russian.
http://www.midi.ru/home/137628/

You just click on any link and one more time click the same link in the new window.
However, you cannot download every song on the list. There is some strange policy of administration.
But make no mistake about these pieces. Most of them is just a compositions and have never been performed in live.

My publications is quite different: I'm, actually, arranging the music I play many years every single day.

If you'll meet with some difficulties, let me know and I'm going to help you.

Good luck.

Hi Kombrig....Thank you for Lara's waltz, of course you probably know that there have been many many arrangements of this lovely song, I did one in 5 parts a couple of years ago, it was played by a band of 28 accordions, quite a sound.

What I find different about yours is the key you chose, I have played it in at least 3 other keys but never in the key of 'A', most unusual, I don't know why but I find lots of musicians seem to shy away from 3 sharps yet they have no problem with 3 flats....peculiar.

While I'm here Thanks for your nice comments on the Tangos, yes, they are very nice aren't they? I hope they are now in your repertoire.

Have a Good one.....TTYL.......Derek.

Perhaps, you going to be 'surprised', if I'll tell you that the REAL key I'm playing this song is F SHARP MAJOR. And this is true... I attracted by a SOFT sound of this key.
I explained a whole thing to you at a "Tango" section.
Having a button accordion, I don't have to worry about an amount of sharps, flats and naturals. I call it, actually, ALTERATIONS.

Thanks for your nice comments on the Tangos...

You bet, Derek! I enjoy it, I really do!
