Beaming Notes Question
Hi,
I'm not sure if this is a "bug" or not, but maybe I can get some help... I have a piece that is mostly in 5/4 time. I want pairs of eighth notes beamed separately, but if I try to enter a beam group of 2+2+2+2+2, I get an error "Invalid beam grouping." The best I can do is a group of 2+2+2+4, but then I have to edit the last four notes in individual measures. :( Am I doing something wrong? Thanks, Andy http://www.gomad.org/pictures/01Apr11-01.gif |
Re: Beaming Notes Question
Hi Andy,
Can you post a copy of your file, or send it to me at support@notation.com please? I have a theory that I'd be glad to try out, but I want to make sure I'm not spinning my tires with incomplete conditions :) Thanks! Sherry |

Re: Beaming Notes Question
Hi Andy,
It does appear to be a previously unreported bug re. the 2+2+2+2+2 beaming pattern giving you the error message (now written up as task 2422). I think the following workaround will get you there, but it would need to happen after you've entered the notes. This may be a distraction while you're entering them, to have the notes improperly beamed, so I do apologize for the inconvenience here. 1. After entering the notes, select all staves. 2. In the Notes and Rests palette, click the "Beaming" button. 3. Now click the "beam all left, primary right" button. (If you've previously clicked it, you'll get a toggle effect - if the notes all beam together, click the button again for the "proper" effect). BTW, I love this song - we do it at our church and I play my low whistle (we play it in E) for the bass, along with acoustic guitar. Great lyrics - I really like Stuart Townend's music! ttfn, Sherry |
Re: Beaming Notes Question
Sherry,
Thanks for the info. I'm glad (am I?) that it's a bug and not my lameness, but at this point, it's rather moot, since I already "handcrafted" the beams as I want them. I may make a copy of the file and play around with the settings as you describe. I'll be singing this in a couple of weeks in my church, and I just wanted to hear it and get it into a usable key (or two) for myself. Thanks again! Regards, Andy |
