Hi, I have just downloaded a trial version to try before I buy.I am not that computer literate and need help. My Roland F P 30 is connected to my desktop via usb. How do I get the piano to connect to the software to start recording a song? I can record in Audacity and Cakewalk. Do I need to download a driver ?

Hi,

Composer will automatically detect any MIDI input device. To check to make sure, though, you can
  1. open Composer
  2. make sure your keyboard or other MIDI instrument is "on"
  3. In Composer, click on "Setup" and then "MIDI devices quick setup"
  4. Play a few notes on your MIDI instrument - you should see the red "light" flash when you play the notes.
If you do, then all you'll need to do to record into Composer is
  1. select a staff
  2. click the Record button in the upper left
  3. start playing your instrument
If you don't see the "blinky light" when you test your keyboard as described above, let us know and we'll work through this with you.

Sherry

Hi, gatley:

I also notice that you mention recording into Audacity and Cakewalk.

Whle Cakewalk is both a midi and audio program, Audacity is strictly audio.

So, please be aware that Notation Composer is a MIDI only sequencer. Think of it as preparing the score, while things like Audacity are for working with the CD.

I hope that helps.

Hi Gatley,

When I connect my Clavinova to my PC, I have to make certain that the Clavinova is turned on before I open Composer. If I open Composer first and then turn on the Clavinova, I don't get an immediate connection.
