Suggest beginer's MIDI book
All those MIDI tech terms and acronyms! How does it all flow together? What are the essential components? There's got to be a good book out there for us beginners. amazon search turned up too many and ratings depend on the persective of the reader (eg rated great by a newbie or an expert?). I'm looking for the basics - play the file with decent sound, and record from a keyboard, real-time or note by note. Some guidance here would be appreciated.

Re: Suggest beginer's MIDI book
Hi, Briansdad:
A simple place to start is with the Quick Start Tutorial or the User's Guide (for more detail) under the Help menu in your Notation product. In particular, the section Recording From A Music Keyboard will guide you fairly thoroughly through setting up and beginning to record your music. Once set up, using midi devices is usually pretty straightforward and most people don't need to think about "sysex" and "real time controllers" and "registered parameters". There is a lot of power hidden under those terms, but there's a lot of music to be made without thinking about them. Also happy to answer questions if possible. Hope that helps. David |

Thanks,
I just assumed that these "basics" would be prerequisite to getting started with this product. Still, I enjoy getting to understand what is under the hood too.:) Bill |
Re: Suggest beginer's MIDI book
There's a very good intro to MIDI here:
http://tweakheadz.com/how-to-get-sta...ording-studio/ Done humourously and lightly, but with good information. The Midi Association has a how-to here: https://www.midi.org/articles/an-intro-to-midi Amazon features a number of books on midi. Here's a link to one of them: http://www.amazon.com/The-MIDI-Manua.../dp/0240807987 And our own Sherry Crann has put together a number of tutorials on getting started and using Notation productions that includes setting up and using midi keyboards here: http://www.notation.com/TutorialVideos.php Hope that helps.
