General Method for Adding, Changing, and Deleting Objects

In general, there are three things you can do with any type of musical object or symbol, such as a note or dynamic mark. You can add, change, or delete it.

The general procedures for accomplishing each of these three tasks in Composer are outlined below.

Note that some editing operations, such as copy and paste, are based not on selected objects but on selected regions of the score such as a range of measures in one or more staves. For details, see Selecting and Editing Regions of a Score.

prcarrow To add an object:

1.        Enter Add Mode by one of the following methods:

B816Click the Add Mode general_method_for_addin button.

-- OR --

B816Hit the ENTER key.

-- OR --

B816Right-click the mouse anywhere in the score, except on a lyric or text object.

The mouse cursor will change to this shape:        general_method_for_addin1

2.Choose the type of object you want to add from a palette. Use the mouse to navigate through the palettes, or type the SHIFT key plus the letter for the palette, such as SHIFT+D for the Dynamic Mark Palette.

3.        Move the cursor to where you want to add the object and click the mouse.

prcarrow To change an object:

1.        Enter Select Mode by one of the following methods:

B816Click the Select Mode general_method_for_addin2 button.        

    -- OR --

B816Hit the ENTER key.

-- OR --

B816Right-click the mouse anywhere in the score, except on a lyric or text object.

The mouse cursor will change to this shape:        general_method_for_addin3

2.Click on the object you want to change.

The palette and the Object Menu will be updated to offer you editing options specific to the type of object you have selected. A selected object is highlighted in blue.

3.Choose options in the palette or Object Menu to change the properties of the selected object.

prcarrow To delete an object:

1.Enter Select Mode as described above.

    Hit the ENTER key to switch from Add Mode or Step-Time Record Mode.

2.Click the object you want to change. The selected object will be highlighted in blue.
3.Hit the DelKey key.
