The loudness of a note can range from 1 to 127. This is the MIDI note-on velocity. When you add a note, its loudness will be 64, by default. You can change this default by following this general procedure:

prcarrow To specify the loudness for newly added notes:

1.Click the Loudness (Velocity) ToolbarButtonVelocity button in the main toolbar.

-- OR --

Type SHIFT+V.

2.Select a newly added note.
3.Type L+UpArrowKey or L+DownArrowKey to increase or decrease the loudness of the selected note.
4.In the Loudness submenu of the Note menu choose the Save Loudness for New Notes command. This saves the loudness of the note you just edited.

After this, any note that you subsequently add will have the same loudness as that of the note you saved.

The above procedure is described in detail in Editing the Loudness of Notes.
