If you do not hear any sound during playback, then see What To Do When You Do Not Hear Any Sound.

There are several ways that you can control the volume level for playback:

1.Turn the volume level up or down on the speakers connected to your computer.
2.Use Composer's volume control, located in the main toolbar:

VolumeControl

With Composer's volume control, you can dynamically change the volume level of one or more selected instruments during playback.

3.Individually set each staff's volume level before starting playback.
4.Use the Windows volume control in the Windows task bar:

controlling_overall_volu1

Windows will then display the following sound volume level control:

controlling_overall_volu2

Move the volume lever up and down to increase and decrease the volume level.

5.On some versions of Windows, the volume level for playback of MIDI can be controlled separately from the volume level for playback of other types of audio. This feature is particularly useful when you find, for example, that MIDI playback generally sounds a lot different than the Windows welcome sound, or the playback of other types of sound files.

To separately control the volume level for MIDI, click the Windows Start menu at the bottom, left corner of the screen. Windows will display a pop-up menu. Choose the Control Panel option, which is a sub option of Setting on some versions of Windows. In the Control Panel folder, choose the Sounds and Multimedia (or Sounds and Audio Devices) option:

  controlling_overall_volu3   -- OR -- control_panel_sounds_and_multimedia

Recent versions of Windows will display a Sounds and Audio Device Properties dialog box. Click the Volume tab, and then the Advanced button. Windows will show the Playback Control dialog box, such as show below. For earlier versions of Windows, navigate to the Play Control Panel, which looks similar to the following.

In the Playback Control dialog box, observe that there is a separate volume control for MIDI. Adjust the MIDI Volume lever to control the volume of MIDI playback relative to that of other types of audio playback.
