Changing Only the As-Notated Location and Duration |
The previous topics describe how you can change the exact as-performed timing of a note-- its attack and release-- while leaving its notated location and duration unchanged. This topic describes the converse case, that is, how you can change the as-notated location and duration of the note without changing the as-performed timing of the note. The procedures for changing the as-notated location and duration of a note are quite similar to those for changing the as-performed attack and release of a note. The main difference is that you select the As-Notated palette before you use commands such as Move Attack Right, or their keyboard short-cuts (A+). To change the as-notated duration of one or more selected notes, while leaving the as-performed duration of the notes unchanged:
-- OR -- Type SHIFT+Y.
-- OR -- Or type "en" for edit notation.
-- OR --
The following example shows the effect of decreasing the as-notated duration of a note. Notice how the as-performed duration of the note remains as a full quarter note duration:
To move the as-notated attack of one or more selected notes, while leaving the as-performed attack of the notes unchanged:
-- OR --
The following example shows the effect of moving the as-notated attack of a note to the right. Notice how the performed attack of the note remains at the beginning of the measure:
To shift the note to the right or left, while leaving its as-notated duration unchanged, and leaving its as-performed timing unchanged:
-- OR --
The following example shows the effect of shifting the note to the right. Notice how the as-performed start of the note still lies at the beginning of the measure, and the duration extends to the end of the first quarter note beat of the measure, rather than to the end of the newly shifted note. |
