Default Set duration to as performed

I could not see this question, so if it is somewhere and I should have seen it, please direct me to it, as I get flamed . After recording a piano piece via MIDI, there are notes that appear as quarters and really are longer in duration. This is evident by viewing the piano roll. As I use the piano roll, I can't find a way to set the notated duration of notes to that of the performed notes (would like the notation to reflect the rectangular bars in piano roll). Please advise. Thanks...

Hi,

There is some "slop" in the allowed durations for each note. If you can post an example piece, we can take a look at it and either note any issues, or offer a solution with the existing tools.

ttfn,
Sherry

Hi Sherry,

I have attached the 1st 23 measures. In the 1st measure I manually extended the D (in treble staff) and in the 2nd measure I left the C alone (notice piano roll). I left 3rd measure alone as well. Thanks.

Hi,

Thanks for including the file. There is a problem if you transcribe the file with only single voice. To fix the issue, use Format/Retranscribe, and check the box for "Split (upper and lower) voices".

ttfn,
Sherry

Wow, that worked like a charm! Thanks for your prompt assistance. Should I be recording with multiple voices and if so is that an easy step?

Sherry, I am always impressed with your quick replies and especially after hours.

Cheers!

Hi,

Thanks for the kind words

You can set the default transcription options (Setup/Transcription options) to always transcribe split voices. This way whenever you (1) open a .mid file or (2) record into Composer, you'll get the "split" transcription.

ttfn,
Sherry
