Default Free online music classes by Berklee!

Hi friends,

Just thought I'd pass along this information in case anyone else out there is interested in some free classes from Berklee School of Music.

I (and a couple of our big band members) will be taking the "Introduction to Improvisation", which is a free 5-week condensed version of Berklee's 12-week-and-for-credit class. You can find it at https://www.coursera.org/course/improvisation

I'm playing bass in a local big band, and while I don't aspire to be a bass soloist, I do want to improve my playing within the framework of what's going on around me. I've improved a lot over the last year (by main force of having to ) but I figure (1) it's free and (2) the guy can't throw anything at me if I sound awful I'll probably also dabble at these a bit with my Irish whistles, and maybe another instrument or two as well, but my main goal is to become better as a musician, no matter what instrument I'm playing.

They also have other free classes (and of course Berklee has a slew of pay-for-and-get-credit online classes as well), but I thought the Coursera versions might be of interest to others as a way to check out the online method and see if it works for you.

Enjoy!
Sherry

Default Re: Free online music classes by Berklee!

Hi, Sherry:

Thanks for that. It sounds interesting.

One of my sisters did her music degree at Berklee (Boston campus). Many years later, I ran into someone who had gone there at the time and, when I mentioned my sister's name, her reply was "Oh, yeah. Can she ever sight read!"

I wish to heck I could!

My sister also met her husband there. So, it's a good place to get an M. Rs., as well as a B. Mus. Now they're both Doctors of Art History at University of Western Ontario in London.

In fact, half of my siblings are now Doctors of one kind or another. Makes my little old BFA look pale. I might have to write away to Harvard for a PhD.
