I want you to listen to this song and tell me what it makes you think of. Later, I'll post the name of the song and the .NOT file if anyone's interested.

Hi Alex
I listened to the recording and it sounds to me as a surprising intro to some heavy metal or jazz rock-fusion piece ( a la Stanley Clarke ).
Nice composition and recording too.
What´s the surprise ?
Regards
Djim

Well, I'd like to say what it's meant to be if I could get more responses first. I'm wondering if I succeeded in what I was trying to convey.

Default Howdy Alex, I should have s

Howdy Alex,

I should have saved it the other day when I first listened to it, because now I can't get to the mp3 file anymore If the file can only be loaded for a certain length of time, could you please post it again, or email it to me if that works? I'd love to give it another listen I was intrigued by the actual sounds - are they from a soundfont you have or created? (I like messing about with those myself.) If you could share the .not file that be really nice too.

Thanks!
Sherry

The site that I'm using to store my mp3s is down. Let me see if I can post it elsewhere.

It looks like the Download link under "Full" doesn't work yet. You can listen to it streaming first.

The original site hosting the song is up again. And the sounds are from FL Studio and soundfonts I downloaded. They're mostly from stuff that came with FL Studio.

I guess Sherry forgot about it. So sad.

I'll just state what the song is meant to be. It's called "The Kelp Forest". I was trying to come up with a sound that makes the listener think of being underwater and amid a kelp forest, or seaweed, or a coral reef.

Default Howdy Alex, I didn't fo

Howdy Alex,

I didn't forget about your song, I've just been busier than usual the last few days. My four kids are all in soccer now, and then on top of that the guys showed up unannounced to put in our geothermal water lines in the ground - nearly a mile of tubing! They dug up pretty much all of the north side of our yard (~3/4 acre). So what with supervising the removal (and replacement) of a yard's worth of shrubs and plantings (we like to garden) and practices and workplace picnic and life in general, I'm now here

I'll admit that my initial thoughts for "place" ran more along the lines of a vast cavern with stalactites and crystals all about, but perhaps that's because of what I'd been reading lately (reviewing some sections of The Lord of the Rings, where Gimli waxes eloquent about the caverns to Legolas).

Listening to your piece now, with the "insider information", I can also easily envision swimming through a kelp forest. And it's lovely

Amazing how much influence context has on how we interpret something as visceral as music...

ttfn,
Sherry
