Default Hi All, Sorry for the long st

Hi All,
Sorry for the long story, but this tune requires an answer to “Why did he do this?”. For many years, as a sax player in Baltimore, I had a rival…a bitter rival. Although most of us were considered “prima donnas”, Teddy was a mouthy one. He thought he was the best and didn’t mind telling everyone. We never played together. We did play opposite each other on occasions. We said hello to each other, but that was the extent of it. One night in 1972 or 1973 we were scheduled to play in a big ‘battle of the saxes’ show. Several of the other guys kept bugging us to play something together. The rivalry was common knowledge not only among the musicians, but also among many of our fans. We agreed to do it, but we would not play anything serious. We decided to choose a song that would display some technical ability , but at the same time would be amusing and entertaining at the same time. This show was at a packed night club and was very noisy to say the least. I remember someone introduced us something like “ And now, for the very first time, Freddy and Teddy will play something together for you”. You could hear a pin drop! After the boring beginning of the song, when it got going the people were on their feet. It was hilarious!
We called it “Dueling Saxes”.
Cheers,
Fred
