Placement of Triplet Notation

I have browsed through Help and don't see a way to do this - I have a quarter note triplet where the - 3 - in measure 1 above the triplet notes gets in the way of a slur (or vice versa). In this case, the slur should be above, but the - 3 - is also above, and they are in conflict (and messy to work around). See the attached snippet. I would like to be able to tell Composer to move the - 3 - below the notes. Is there a way to do this, or do I just have to move the slur over the top of the - 3 -?

Hi Ralph,

Secret Tip 3018: To make the triplet show below the notes:

1. Select all the notes in the triplet.
2. Click the "Lower voice" button in the Notes palette.
3. Click the resulting "extra" rest, and then the "Toggle hiding of rest"

Voila! (or as they say in music, "Viola!" ).

I may have to publish one of those some time and charge a bazillion dollars for it Seriously, there are a LOT of those types of maneuvers that aren't documented, but can be done by "following the logic" of the program.

For example, I honestly had not ever thought about a situation like yours specifically. But I do know that you can have different voices for notes, and that for split voices the markings such as triplets will be assigned based on the stem direction. For the snippet that you posted, the top staff has 2 of the 3 stems pointing up (like upper voice), so the triplet marking is on top. The alto staff has all three stems pointing down (like a lower voice) so the triplet marking is below the notes. By manually setting the notes in the soprano line to lower voice (and conveniently hiding the resulting upper voice rest) you can make Composer put the triplet below the notes so as not to interfere with the slur. I tried it, and it worked, so then I told you about it
