Hi, Briansdad:

Staves that are not selected for display within a part are still active.

They can be selected to play or not through the Staff/Setup menu and choosing to Mute/Unmute staves as desired.

Be aware that muting will be remembered in that part, so you have to unmute manually, if you want that staff to sound in that part later.
