Default I am working on some new music

I am working on some new music for a summer 2008 concert to be held outdoors in our town at an installation called the Millenium Gates, which were created, oddly enough, as a millenium year project.

The musical suite I'm working on is called The Gates of the Millenium, and it's a set of pieces loosely about the future. This one is called Altered Paths.

No lyric yet and I need to trim it some but I like what's coming up.

You'll need to unzip it.

Hi Dave
I very much like your Floyd-ish ( also Jarre-influenced ??) song.
Nice bass and guitars too (I used Fender fretless and Les Paul overdriven guitar soundfonts, Merlin Vienna bank,Synthfont and SB live soundcard ).
I am looking forward to your minor adjustments( not too much I hope ) and the lyrics too.Wiil it be played by live musicians at the concert ?
Thanks for sharing it
Cheers
Djim

Hi Dave
I took the liberty to render your song to a MP3-256 bits ( 11.6 Mb )file using my default set up.
You may want to listen to your song the way I hear it.
If so,this is a direct download link to your song:

Hope it will work.
Cheers

Hi David,

I like "Altered Paths" very much. The alteration of prominent instruments or groups strikes me as seamless and quite effective. I particularly like the melodic writing--enough so that I'd like to hear it more in the foreground. I've been listening via the link Djim provided above. Congratulations on a fine piece of music.

all best,
mgj

Default Hi Djim, Nice job of record

Hi Djim,

Nice job of recording David's "Altered Paths." ZShare might be a good resource for everybody to know about. It might be a way of solving the problem of the Forum's file size limitation; that is, a way for people to share mp3 recordings (or even large .not files) of their music. If you are so inclined, it might be worth posting a note about Zshare along with their main URL.

I found another similar free service, which I haven't tried yet. Once I do, if it works, I will post to the the Third Party Products section of the Forum.

all best,
mgj

Hi MG
Glad to hear that the link does work.I got it from my bass guru to upload my "homework" on Walking (Jazz) Bass composition techniques. No, you wonīt find any homework up there because I always "forget" to upload or too "busy" to keep up with my lessons.
I agree that it might be worth mentioning the ZShare site in the TPP thread of our Forum, also because itīs free ( hi Sherry, are you listening in ?.)and large files (MP3 256-320 bits )seem to be no problem (so far ).
Nice piece of music indeed.Letīs wait for the lyrics and the "minor adjustments" mentioned by the composer.
Take care
Djim

Hi, Djim and M.G.

Thanks for your comments. My music often tends to be background, so it's nice when somebody notices it.

The plan is for a live concert with my son's band and, possibly, a DVD of music and video in connection with it. They're all still only 17, 18 by the time the summer comes around, but my god, they're good!

I'll try to have a listen to your MP3, Djim, but it may not work with my 14.4 Kbaud connection speed. It takes a long time to download anything. In rendering to audio here, I've added some slapback echo to the melodic piano and the lead guitar and some chorus to the rhythm guitar. Very atmospheric.

The attachment here is a .not file containing the vocal line with my new working lyric for the song. If you wish, you can paste it over top of the vocal line of the first attachment and it should fit right in. I'm using a flute sound on the vocal line so that M.G. can hear it better.

Six pieces done and eight to go plus some connecting bits on this project.

Thanks for your kind words.

David

Hi Dave
So father so son.I am sure the band will perform this song as it should be played with a nice overdriven (little compression)guitar.
I uploaded a 64 bit MP3 file ( 2,6 Mb )which I hope you can listen to.
Also I have MP3 files of each seperate instrument track/staff if interrested.Personnally I found out to be a very crude way to listen to
my own attemps to "create" some decent bass lines.
I will download and have a look at the lyrics now.
Cheers
Djim
BTW, the download link is the same as mentioned above.

Hi Dave
Sorry, wrong link.I recently had some problems contacting the Forum (due to some nasty IP problems ).As a result I should refrain from spreading anymore URLīs.
Maybe I can find out a " work around" to manage this problem.
Meanwhile,keep the nice songs coming.
I just downloaded the lyrics ,so I will have a look at it now.
Cheers
Djim
