I did a test in the older 2.5.2 and found it has the same problem.

Hi Jaap,

Thanks for the report - this is now written up for fixing.

The problem occurs with copy/pasting lyrics that don't have any notes associated with them. If you add notes to the top staff that has the lyrics, and then do the steps to copy/paste the lyrics, it will work.

For example, in the file you have here:

1. In "add" mode, use the Notes/Notes and your mouse to add notes to the staff that contains the lyrics.

2. Then, use Ctrl + mouse drag to select those measures.
3. Ctrl + C to copy that region to the clipboard.
4. Now Ctrl + mouse drag to select the target measures.
5. Edit/Paste Special/Paste Lyrics, and now it works.

Sorry for the inconvenience here, and thanks for reporting the bug. This can be an issue in karaoke files, which often have lyrics in a separate staff that does not contain notes.

ttfn,
Sherry

Thanks Sherry

I tried your suggestion. It works fine

I also tried the following procedure
1. Click the Staff Control to select the source staff with Lyrics to copy,
2. Cont+C to copy the staff
3. Select the target Staff with Staff Control button
4. Then Clicked Passed Special - Lyric.
This does not produce the error message but the copy did not work.

I found the workaround which also works
Click menu: Part - prepare Fake book Lead Sheet, using the emty Lyrics track and the Melody track. Worked great and quick

Cheers Jaap
