Default New User - Scanning Sheets

Hi I am bbrault and I am a new user. We use to have a piano when I grew up a long time ago. I played easynote for fun but I never really learned. We just got a very nice digital piano for my family and some learning software for the kids. I am using Notation Composer to create those Easy Parts it is opening a new world of music and learning for me. Anyway here is my question. I have a few music sheets that I would like to scan and get into NC. I tried searching the forum and only found old reference that there would be third party tools to do so. I also found something called PhotoScore Lite. I do not know if it would do the job. My major interest is to play along. There seem to be some very nice play along CDs with printed piano sheets but not with .mid so I would eventually like to scan those as well. Thank You so much in advance.

Hi,

It sounds like you folks are having a great time with music - kudos to you for leading the way!

To get the sheets you have into Composer, you can simply enter the notes using the mouse and keyboard (see the Tutorial Video at http://www.notation.com/vb-forum/showthread.php?t=3636). For pieces that are not long nor complicated, this may be nearly as fast as going through the process of scanning a sheet and then converting it to a .mid.

However, for longer pieces, you may indeed want to scan it to PDF and then convert that to a MIDI file which you can pull into Notation Composer. I use a cool little dedicated app called PhotoScore Lite 7 (http://www.neuratron.com/photoscore.htm) Click the small blue text "purchase" link at the top of the right-hand features column. Then select "Photoscore Lite 7" in the Product drop box. It regularly sells for $59, though I was able to get mine some time back on sale for $24. I've used this app for numerous pieces, and it has typically given me an excellent rendition of the original sheet.

ttfn,
Sherry
