Ah, yes, David. That is probably the first "shaggy dog story" that I was able to comprehend in my very early years. My wife and I have humorously shared it from time to time over the years. The way I heard it featured Roy Rogers and Dale Evans and an unfortunate mountain lion.
For those who are curious, there is a web page, "Cat Who Chewed Your New Shoes", that attributes the story to a Hank Snow (Country legend) parody - just the lyrics, and commentary from folks who love it/don't love it. I didn't search further to see if I could find a Snow recording. As I was scoring this arrangement, Cynthia periodically sang the opening line. It's a fun (and challenging) song to play. RRR |
