Getting Midi Recording to work with Yamaha UX-16
Hello,
I tried for hours to get my notation composr to accept input from my Yamaha clavinova keyboard with the UX-16 device. I tried all the advice in the documentation without success, I even bought a new midi cable to ensure that was not the issue. I was finally able to get it to work (by accident) and wanted to share the solution since I saw on the internet that others have the same issue. In my case I had to do 2 important things: 1. my midi cable needed to have the lead labelled OUT connected to the IN on my keybaord. Similarly the IN lead had to be connected to the OUT port on the computer. 2. I had to disable my IDT audio High definition codec in the drivers section. I then closed notation composer and reopened it and then added it back (else I cannot hear sound on my computer). Unfortunately I need to repeat step 2 each time I restart my computer. Hope this helps others with the issue, and it might be nice to add this in the documentation as items to try. shelby |

Re: Getting Midi Recording to work with Yamaha UX-16
Hi, Shelby:
As to the first point, that's the way MIDI works: Out to In and In to Out. While I'm not sure, the second problem may be related to Microsoft's (nearly) useless GS Wavetable synth. While fine for those who have no other sound device on their system, it can interfere with other devices the user installs. The fact that you have to fiddle with your audio settings, which Composer doesn't deal with, in and of itself, makes me suspect the GS Wavetable synth. Make sure that it is disabled in your Midi Device Configuration for Composer. If you need internal sounds, I suggest a 3rd Party synth, like Cool Soft or Synthfont. Hope that helps. David |

Re: Getting Midi Recording to work with Yamaha UX-16
David,
thanks very much for the followup. I will definitely try the alternatives you suggest. It is actually quite frustrating to disable and enable then restart even though it solves my problem. As for In to OUT I never would have guessed that was the standard, but that would be a helpful hint to add to the guide for newbies like me! thanks again, shelby |

Hi Shelby,
Quote:
There are so many variations and possibilities that it would be tedious to list them all in the Quick Start Guide, though many are covered in the big Users Guide (Help/Users Guide in the software). Glad you're getting going, and we hope you enjoy using Notation Composer. If you have any questions or problems, do feel free to post them here, or contact us directly at support@notation.com Our users, though, typically have a lot of the answers already, as you've found out already ttfn, Sherry
