This behavior is as intended. The feature is to allow
contrasting the selected staff with other staves in terms of volume so you can focus on the selected staff. We opted to have the volume of the other staves decrease as you slide the volume control left to allow you to clearly hear the selected staff, and to then increase the other staves' volume as you slide right so that the mix more nearly matches the "full mix", but still with the selected volume slightly elevated to hear it more clearly.
We decided against actually increasing any volumes higher than the "set" volume so as to avoid blowing out ears or speakers
