"Summertime" was written by George and Ira Gershwin in 1935 for the Broadway Musical, "Porgy and Bess", and eventually, the movie of the same name. I'll have to give credit to the arranger, Gil Evans -- the opening phrase by the Alto Recorder is straight off the Miles Davis "Porgy and Bess" album/CD.

This piece is meant to be played with a slow, easy swing. I have kept it in Standard Notation to help emphasize the swing feeling.

We hope you enjoy playing it.
