Default Today seems to be "guitar to score" day

Howdy folks,

Today seems to have been "guitars and Notation file score" day at the helpdesk. Being a guitar player myself (of the bass variety more these days), I'm always looking to see what's available to get something into Notation Composer via MIDI.

These days I'm seeing this "You Rock Guitar YRG-1000 MIDI Controller" and wondering if it handles anything close to a real guitar. From what I can tell, it's main aim is an attempt to get "Guitar Hero" types transitioning to the world of real guitar players. From my perspective, or anyone else's who is looking for an inexpensive way to get notes into a score via MIDI, I'm wondering if it would handle enough like a real guitar to make it a "mid priced" option for guitar-to-MIDI needs at around $200 usd.

The Sonuus G2M unit is less expensive ($100 usd), but suffers the same drawbacks as audio-to-MIDI software - no polyphony, and sometimes fooled by harmonics. I also see that Sonuus has a new unit out now (perhaps came out at NAMM this year?), the "i2M Musicport", which I've read absolutely nothing about, but looks like a beefed up version of the "2M" series that has firmware that can be updated in the future (nice bonus). It's MSRP is around $200 usd. Roland and Axon make some nice pickups, but you have to buy a converter box to go with it, the two of which then puts you up in the $600-1200 usd range. There are also "built in" guitars such as Godin and Parker, but they're pretty pricey as well.

So, all that said, has anyone tried one of these "You Rock guitar" units? If so, what are your thoughts on it?

Thanks!
Sherry
