Re: Holiday greetings

Hi Dj,
Love the sound of the Monteverdi. The suggestion of voices used as instruments gives it an almost hypnotic effect. All are interesting, and I thoroughly enjoy them.

Happy Holidays to...

Re: A bit of boogie-woogie

Hi David,
I have a number of albums of WWII music. "BG Boogie" would fit very nicely on any of them. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would love to hear it performed. Any chance of making a recording...

Re: drop an octive

Hi Skelly,

Select the notes you want to drop an octave and hold the Shift key while you hit the minus on the keypad. If you want to drop every note in the staff, you can select them all by...

Re: Composer Capacity

Hi you guys,
The purist in me says use the ahhhhs for the chorus, even if it is a bit more difficult to get the relative volume you want for each part. For the soloists, the Real Voice SF might be...

Re: Composer Capacity

Hi Ralph,
The Vl and Sax Concerto I'm (hopefully) just finishing is 338 measures long and there are 23 staves, and I think both my Violin Concerto (mvt I) and 1st Symphony (mvts 1 and 4) beat that...

Re: Here is my music for classical

Hi Adrian,
Somehow missed this in '08, but am happy I bumped into it tonight. You spoke of 'coming up' with the orchestration, which might suggest something imposed. However, I think the whole...

Re: Yamaha KX 49 & Composer problem

Hi Sherry,
I think I've got it!!!! Played in Synthfont and made changes and added a couple of measures and SF picked them all up. First time SF displayed a midi file of 32 channels, listing the...

Re: Yamaha KX 49 & Composer problem

Hi Sherry,
Sorry to hear about the emergencies. I hope they pass and all is well.

I'll be quick.
1. I found that for the 4 banks added to Merlin Creative, if I click through the banks and find...

Re: Yamaha KX 49 & Composer problem

Hi Sherry,
Woe increases along with entropy. Maybe trying to solve a problem with Composer might help.
Using 'add bank' Synth A and B (and Maple 1, too, now) show these banks: Merlin Creative...

Re: Yamaha KX 49 & Composer problem

Hi Sherry,
Your set up instructions and the graphics are very clear and look like they should work. But either I'm screwing up somewhere or the Audigy 2 ZS sound card isn't made for use with a...

Re: Yamaha KX 49 & Composer problem

Hi Sherry,
The 'Christmas' Symphony done and the Ned/Nelly aria nearly so, I have installed Maple Midi. I am going to need more than 16 channels, no matter how many sound changes I could do in the...

Outstanding, David. Also watched your interview, and am amazed there is so much talent among 6,000.

Re: When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again

Ralph,
I've heard this in so many arrangements over the years that I thought surely there was nothing more that could be done with it. It is a pleasure to be proved wrong. The song is fresh again....

Re: Video tutorials - let's make a list!

Hi Sherry,
After all these years of using MidiNotate and Notation, the most helpful thing for me would be an explanation/demonstration of getting melisma dashes to continue on the next page. I've...

Re: Yamaha KX 49 & Composer problem

Hi Sherry,
Thanks. It sounds quite logical to use Audigy as one sound device and Synthfont as another. I wonder if it might get around the problem of the computer crashing when I try to use...

Re: Yamaha KX 49 & Composer problem

Hi Sherry,
I think I can do the configuration of Maple Midi, Synthfont and Composer as you describe it above.

My question is: where does my Audigy 2 ZS fit into the setup?

Synthfont is already...

Re: In memoriam: Djim Tio

Hello all,
One hardly knows what to say at such a time. Perhaps it is enough that all my memories are fond and I will miss him greatly. We had a long and fairly regular exchange of emails, in...

3 duets

Three short flute/piano duets that remind me of the years my wife and I played for quite a while almost every day. The idea to do them happened during a flu fever back in March. The Interlude is an...

Re: Transposing (only) one staff

Hi Snoops,
Yes you can transpose only one staff, but if I were going to make just a few measures 4 1/2 tones lower, the fastest way would be to select those measures (Ctrl and mouse drag). then move...

Re: Invention for Violin and Bass Guitar

Hi Sherry,

Have fun with it. I neglected to make the tempo annotation a quarter note = 115 to 135. It becomes a different piece almost at the slower tempo.

all best,

Invention for Violin and Bass Guitar

Two instruments not often heard as a duet. Thought I'd give it a try. I don't know that much about the bass guitar, so perhaps somebody might point out which double stops would require a hand the...

Thanks for the update. I think of Fred often; it's pretty hard not to miss him still. I don't know all the details, but I'm not sure I'd agree that it would be a blessing for anyone...

Re: The Heather on the Hill

Hi Ralph,
"Brigadoon" has been a special favorite of mine since high school (which was a few years before retirement;) It's a fine love story, with a relevant sub-plot re-enforcing the central one....
