Danza Sara

Hi everyone! I would like to share one of my favorite piano compositions. This one is from a composer whose name was Angel Mislan. A native of Puerto Rico, he composed this piece around 1893. The style called "danza" was a genre very popular at the time. I'm sure my fellow pianists will find the left hand very interesting!:)

Hi Iosonoilprologo,
A charming piece that I've enjoyed several times. I couldn't help, after the second hearing, beginning to imagine what the effect would be if it were orchestrated. The interplay of melody and counter-melody is quite attractive.
all best,
mgj

Hi MGJ 32,

This piece has been orchestrated! This particular genre was showcased in ballrooms. Some of the compositions of this particular style were more mellow-like, almost like ballads, and others (like Sara) were livelier or upswing. Mislan was an euphonium virtuoso and he played most of the the left hand in the euphonium in the orchestrated version. ;)
