Mexican Shuffle Duet

"Mexican Shuffle" is one of the two Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass hits for which I have written a duet this month. The song was written by Sol Lake in 1964, and subsequently recorded by Herb Alpert. This arrangement is close to being a reduction of that recording, but it is not exact. There are some places that sorely miss a drum set, but the anticipation of the next notes after a long pause help to create excitement in the playing.

This song, as recorded by Herb Alpert, has a pop swing feel to it, so I have tried to capture that in what you hear in Notation by adjusting the attack and duration of the notes. This will help a lot if you are playing along with Composer/Musician. The style of the song is commonly referred to as a "shuffle beat". If you are fortunate enough to have someone to play the duet with, Notation will let you hear what the rhythm and feel of the duet should sound like.

We hope you enjoy playing this piece.
