Ketelbe made a fortune as a successful composer for Thomas Edison's new moving picture shows. Rumor is he took his fortune, bought a big estate in France, drank beer and played billards until he died.
One may think WHO? Then listen to some of his music, any of it. He was a commercial success from the beginning. He still is. No? Well, when you watch the Progressive commercial and the lady with the thousand eyelashes "FLO" helps the young girl compare rates, there's a snipet of this very tune chopped up in the background. As a child I watched "Industry At Work" on TV. Ketelbe was playing there. And he sold all his music before Al Jolsen told us we hadn't heard anything yet. But we'd heard Ketelbe. If you find any more samples of his work, I'd love to hear it.

Howdy Michael,

Thanks for teaching me something new http://www.notation.com/discus/clipart/happy.gif Can't say that I've seen the commercial you alluded to above, but I know from other experiences that good tunes seem never to die, they just get reincarnated in various ways.

This is definitely a piece to evoke some mental imagery of what might be going on the market. The "moving picture" in my head was a lot of fun http://www.notation.com/discus/clipart/happy.gif

ttfn,
Sherry
