An odd name, I'm sure, but essentially this is a simple, melodic jazz tune evocative of the cool, laid-back night. Not exactly Chopin, but I think it's pretty fun nonetheless.

This was my first and so far only jazz composition, but it was very fun to write, and I'd love to develop this into a longer piece!

Scored for:
- Piano
- Acoustic guitar
- Upright bass
- Percussion

Well, here's the actual music:

Howdy Matt,

This was a fun piece to listen to. Evocative of jazz, without being any stereotypic type. I'd love to hear you develop this into a longer piece, perhaps by extending the band from a quartet to more instruments?

I enjoyed the hand-percussion you used rather than the standard jazz kit. This was a very good example of "less is more", from the standpoint that you laid a good rhythmic foundation with a more minimal approach. As a bass player myself, it bothers me to no end when someone goes over-board with the drums. Your drum line easily lends itself to locking-in with for playing a groove, which your double-bass does nicely!

I did hear a few hiccups, but I think it may be the playback of the file rather than the music itself. Would you be willing to share your .not file with us?

The ending took me a bit by surprise, though, as the piece took on an almost "Canon in D" (to my ears) flavor - interesting twist!

I'll be very interested to hear this as it grows. Great job!

ttfn,
Sherry

Hey Sherry,

Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad you liked the percussion. Your paragraph about the drums/bass dynamic was actually exactly what I was going for, and to be honest I'm quite surprised by how perfectly you nailed the concept. :D

Yeah, the hiccup is due to my computer's poor RAM. ^^

Glad you liked the ending - I decided to extend the minimalist approach to the very end. ^_^

I'd like to extend this to maybe a full-scale jazz quartet concerto, though I'll probably save this endeavor for when I get some more jazz-oriented compositional ideas.

Anyways, thanks again for the comments! Always appreciated.
