help with Alesis QX61 keyboard
Hello I had this keyboard recently and used it happily with my old Windows XP computer. I now have a new computer with Windows 7 - 64 bit and cannot get the PC to recognise any ports on the keyboard, therefore can get no sound. Any suggestions? It just connects with a USB cable. Thanks

Re: help with Alesis QX61 keyboard
Hi, Jeremy:
I don't know the Alesis keyboard, but I have a similar problem with a Zoom digital multi-track recorder that uses USB. It seems that Win 7 64-bit doesn't recognize devices with early USB ports (Version 1.0-ish?). I've not been able to find a fix for it. My workaround has been to have a Win XP computer available to connect to and to take the files from the Zoom to Win XP then over to the Win 7 computer via Flashdrive. A possible workaround for you might be an external MIDI interface connected to the Win 7 computer, provided that the Alesis has 5-pin DIN MIDI jacks available. $25 on an interface and $15 on cables, perhaps. Hope that helps. David |
Re: help with Alesis QX61 keyboard
Thanks for your suggestions. However, we have downloaded a different music software, not as good, but it works perfectly. It just seems to be a Notation problem. It is a new PC and only has USB 2 and 3 ports. So it is baffling. It does have 5 pin plugs as well, so may give that a try.

Re: help with Alesis QX61 keyboard
Hi, Jeremy:
I'm surprised at that. Notation Software products are very robust at finding and connecting to midi devices. You might try deleting your MidiDev.cfg file (back it up, first) which should be located in C:\users\public\public documents\notation\composer and running Composer with the Alesis keyboard plugged in. If it's an active MIDI device in Windows, Composer should find it. Hope that helps. David |

Second, if you have installed the drivers they may not work, but not for the reasons that you might think. Some drivers that aren't signed will no longer work in Windows 7 without jumping through a few hoops. The following link discusses how to load the drivers. http://www.raymond.cc/blog/loading-u...ta-64-bit-x64/ |
