Hello Notation Composer and Musician Users:

You can get a free update (patch) to version 2.1 from any version of Composer or Musician 2.0 through 2.0.4 at: www.notation.com/ComposerUpdate.htm or www.notation.com/MusicianUpdate.htm. Version 2.1 is a major maintenance release, with these overall goals:

Hi Mark,
Thanks for the new version 2.1 of composer. I noticed that this version requires a full setup of the midi ports again, and does not utilize the previous configurations. While the port setup is a small taks, what is a much larger job is the re-entry of the 'patch' tables. I feel these things ought to carry over from version to version without the need for user re-entry. Cheers ... Clyde |
Hi Mark,

Hi Mark,
I notice that when working on something in 2.1 and click file/save as, the name of the directory (e.g.,Songs2), or part of it, shows up as File Name in the dialog, rather than the open file, as used to be the case. This could, for one used to having the file name there (unless the piece was new), result in overwriting something inadvertently. I did not have to re-set midi ports or re-type the patch names, as Clyde did. all best, mgj |
Hello MG,
Hello MG,

That is, perhaps there are some special characters in the directory or song name that the File Save dialog box finds confusing for some reason(?) Cheers -- Mark |
Hi Mark,

Hi Mark,
It happened in all cases, so far. Everything I opened in 2.1 was in the directory Notation/Songs 2.1, to which I have so far remembered to copy everything in case I need to open it in 2.04 some time. I made another directory, Notation/Songs Two and copied everything from Songs 2.1 to that. Now save as in Composer works as it always has, with the name of the piece showing in the File Name dialog. Is the lesson: don't include digits in directory names? all best, mgj |
Hi Mark,
In version 2.0.4.9
Hi Mark,
In version 2.0.4.91 there was a fix to the Font size on the Instrument names, which was defaulting to 1 rather than 10. In the newly releaed version 2.1 that fix seems to be missing. While that is not a big problem (although the fix was greatly appreciated) I am more concerned if somehow other fixes you had in 2.0.4.91 may also have been missed in the transfer to the new version. Cheers ... Clyde |
