Unavailable Midi download sites

This is my first post and if it appears I am moaning I apologise but what I have to say is important to me and hopefully others and that's what forums are about.

Can anyone comment on the following?:

As a new subscriber to Notation Music I am extremely disappointed at the number of Midi sites on the Notation Music platform that are now unavailable and that on others you get directed to free Midi download sites that are loaded with malware!
'Malware' is a general term used to refer to a variety of forms of hostile or intrusive software and sites such as Ilivid, Bearshare and Imesh, are considered by some as being somewhat unsafe. Whilst you may be unaware of any issues these sights can take control of your browsing, are extremely difficult to remove/uninstall and should be avoided.

This apart I am very happy with the Notation Music programme.

Re: Unavailable Midi download sites

Hi,

Welcome to the forum! We are definitely here to help each other, and work together to make making music fun and easier.

Notation Musician is a program and not a subscription - that's an important distinction, because we don't provide files, nor do we charge anyone for them ;)

While we do have a directory of websites that host MIDI files (you can find that at http://www.notation.com/MidiFiles.php), the pages on our website are only to help folks more quickly find those websites where the files are actually located. We do not maintain those websites, and certainly would like to know if you find that any of them have problems, malware or are no longer available. Things do change - websites become unavailable, or change their funding model (eg. they start giving pop-ups or such) - and while we try to keep up with those changes and edit our Directory pages to only point folks to good sites, we may miss something from time to time.

If you find that we need to update a link, remove it for a problem, or add something new, please let us know at webmaster@notation.com

Thanks!
Sherry

Re: Unavailable Midi download sites

Dear Sherry many thanks for your comments and whilst I appreciate your position in not being a subscription site Notician Musician members may be interested to learn that most free download sites come at a price.
As an example I downloaded a programme published by Ilivid and it virtually took over my web browser by directing me to sites it chose and that is how they can afford to offer free downloads. Unfortunately the sites they choose for you are not necessarily checked for safety and that is a risk I'm not prepared to be exposed to. When wishing to uninstall Ilivid the problems started and it took virtually a week to complete. IMesh and Bearshare have the same characteristics to a greater or lesser degree and I recommend that members check the reviews for these sites and learn first hand what others have experienced. It would be so easy to assume that the various websites conjured up are safe just because they were introduced via a link with Notation Musician? So I guess it's a case of customer beware!
