Swinging 8ths in Notation Composer

Hi friends,

I almost hesitate to even put this link to the video here because the audio turned out rather nasty (used the cheap headset on hand rather than setting up my usual recording gear) but I think you'll still get the gist of it.

A user at the helpdesk had a MIDI file that was done in straight 8ths, but had a note that it should be performed when played live as swing 8ths. There is not currently a "presto" button to auto-magically change such MIDI files to a swing performance (it is on the wish-list, though). However, in Notation Composer you can still change the performance to a "swing" performance while keeping the notation "straight" (it gets confusing sometimes :) ).

The short instructions for "swinging" 8th notes in a 4/4 piece (the most typical) are:
1. Open the file in Composer.

2. Click on Piano Roll tab, and click the third button "Edit as-performed only"

3. For the first note of a pair of 8th notes, click on it to select it, and then use your computer keyboard to type "d+80" and then hit "Enter".

4. For the second note of a pair of 8th notes, click on it to select it, then use your computer keyboard to type "a+80" and hit "Enter".
You can download a very rough-n-ready video of the process from here.

Enjoy!
Sherry
