I purchased Notation Musician last week. I believe it is installed ok as I have it up and running. I can find the midi songs and download them fine. My problem is I can't get the music to come out in easy play(NOTES THAT ARE NAMED A B C G, ETC, ON SINGLE STAFFS WITH THE CHORDS ON TOP OR CAN I GET THEM TO COME OUT FAKE BOOK STYLE single staffs with unnamed notes and with chords on top. I have recently started playing the keyboard. Can someone please lead me thru the steps.

Hello John,

Kudos to you for taking up keyboard!

There are two different ways to get an "Easy Notes" display.

1. Use "Part/Easy notes" part, and go through the wizard.
2. Use "Format/Display easy notes for selected staves".

For a Fakebook Style with an "easy notes" display, you can use the "Part/Prepare fake-book lead sheet" command, and go through the wizard. It might take a practice time or two to make sure that you choose the correct staff for melody (sometimes that can be tricky, depending on the .mid file you use) and for analyzing the chords (same issue). After you create the Fake-book sheet, you can use the (2) method above to show the easy-notes.

If you just want to have the keyboard staves in easy-notes, you can (1) select the keyboard part from the drop-list in the menu and then (2) use the Format/Display easy-notes... command to set those staves for easy notes.

ttfn,
Sherry

Hi, Is there anyway to reduce the amount of pages. I have been using the font sizes to reduce the amount of pages but in some cases I have to reduce the font so much its hard to see the music. I am using Notation Musician for single staves easy play music with chords on top. I would like to get it down to a max of three pages of readable music. Thank You. John

PS I can't seem to find anything in the manual about how to do this

Howdy John,

Part of this will depend on the size of the MIDI file that you're transcribing. Some of them can be tremendously long, and so will give really long scores http://www.notation.com/discus/clipart/happy.gif There are a few things you can do to reduce the number of pages you get:

1. Reduce the font size (you're already doing this one http://www.notation.com/discus/clipart/happy.gif )

2. Put in repeats for repeated sections, rather than printing the whole thing out. You can add repeat barlines where needed, then delete the repeated measures elsewhere. For listening with Musician, you can still hear the repeated parts, and if there are multiple repeats for a particular section, you can use "Perform/Edit repetition instructions" to set exactly how Musician performs the song. For instructions on working with barlines, please see the User's Guide (Help/User's Guide) and use the Index to look up "barline", and the various subtopics there.

3. "Force" the number of measures per system, and the number of systems per page. You can do this using the "Layout" tab, and the tools that within that tab, specifically under Layout/Page layout(third button, second level). See the User's Guide, and use the Index to look up "Layout" and the subtopics there.

Hopefully those suggestions will get you on your way http://www.notation.com/discus/clipart/happy.gif

ttfn,
Sherry
