Playing Allen church organ with Musician player

I am having problems with a church organ hookup. I connect "Musician" (containing pre-prepared midi service music) via laptop----thru midisport 1X1 in's/out's ---- to Allen church organ midi in's and out's. I simply need Musician to act as a midi player, sending note information to the Allen. The Musician staves are assigned to 3 channels of which channel 1 is the Swell (upper manual) channel 2 is the Great manual and 3 is the Pedal. (I do NO playing along). Just used as a player. I have successfully done this for quite a while using Notation "Viewer" but it has no other features. Musician plays the organ notes fine. But here is the problem...it is sending some unknown midi messages to the organ combination action (stop presets) which are also designed to be midi controlled if desired (Allen sells a floppy disk drive player which completely plays the organ) With Musician. random organ stops pop out when opening musician songs, and also when manipulating and changing individual organ stops, as if its receiving midi messages from Musician to make stop changes. But the only channels I am sending messages on are 1,2 & 3, which should not be affecting the stop action. Is there any way to clean this up so that all I am doing is sending note messages? I have read through the Composer midi instructions but none of the described possible uses has described mine. Thanks!

Re: Playing Allen church organ with Musician player

Hi Terry,

Did you try using the same song in Notation Player and Notation Musician? Did Player give you one result and Musician a different result? I would find that odd, but if it's true, it's a bug that we would want to figure out. If that's the case, would you mind please letting me know (1) the difference you see/hear (and where it happens) and (2) send me a copy of the file either here or at support@notation.com

If it is the particular file that is causing the stop changes (ie. it happens in both Player and Musician), then I suspect that there may be other MIDI controllers (aka MIDI cc events) in the file that are acting on the organ. Notation Composer does allow you to edit these types of events, and may be useful in these cases (Musician does not have MIDI event editing capability.) You can try it out free for 30 days to see if it lets you edit what you need to in order to remove the MIDI controller(s) that are causing the stops to go out.

ttfn,
Sherry

Re: Playing Allen church organ with Musician player

Hi Sherry, thank you for your quick reply. You're right, it makes sense for me to try Notation player to see if the same issues occur. I will be at the church this week and give it a try. It also popped into my mind that I may be missing something that should have been obvious. I did NOT go into each stave setup of the song I tried with Musician and change the "device" from Microsoft GS Wavetalbe Synth" to "midisport". Perhaps by not doint that, it is trying to send GS wavetable synth sounds to the sound bank in the organ. I will try doing that. I really hope I can solve this because I really like the ease and functionality of the playlist feature on Notation. As you suggested I have already downloaded Composer and will definitely purchase it if I can get this glitch out. Thanks again for your response. I will keep you posted on my progress. Terry
