I am trying to create a piece of dance music, based on Tchaikovsky's main theme from Swan Lake.

do you know any good software, that doesn't require a midi?

Hi,

If you want to play it in (ie. record from a MIDI instrument) or enter the notes using a mouse/QWERTY/MIDI keyboard, then you can try Notation Composer (www.notation.com/NotationComposer.php). It can start with a "found" MIDI file, or you can enter notes (and much more) from scratch.
