Chattanooga Choo Choo Duet

"Chattanooga Choo Choo" was written by Harry Warren and Mack Gordon in 1941.

This song was made popular by the Glenn Miller Band. It is arranged in swing tempo, so I have adjusted the attack and duration of the eighth notes to approximate this feel. There is quite a bit of syncopation in this piece - many of the eighth notes are off the beat attacks. It is a happy song, and Cynthia and I are enjoying playing it. We hope you will also.

Is that the cat who chewed your new shoes?

Ah, yes, David. That is probably the first "shaggy dog story" that I was able to comprehend in my very early years. My wife and I have humorously shared it from time to time over the years. The way I heard it featured Roy Rogers and Dale Evans and an unfortunate mountain lion.

For those who are curious, there is a web page, "Cat Who Chewed Your New Shoes" (http://www.amiright.com/parody/misc/hanksnow1.shtml), that attributes the story to a Hank Snow (Country legend) parody - just the lyrics, and commentary from folks who love it/don't love it. I didn't search further to see if I could find a Snow recording.

As I was scoring this arrangement, Cynthia periodically sang the opening line. It's a fun (and challenging) song to play.
